Estimating Pregnancy Conception Date for Humans

How can a lady determine her conception date? Is it possible to know the day you became pregnant? Actually, the answer is yes. A woman can find out her pregnancy conception date by relying on several proven methods. Before we delve into these ways, it is paramount that we make clear other things associated with the process of pregnancy conception as a foundation for this discussion.

A woman can only conceive in the event where a man’s sperm meet her egg. This event is called fertilization. Therefore there must be a release of both a man’s sperm cell and a woman’s egg before fertilization can happen. A man’s sperm cell is easily released normally during sexual intercourse. For a man with fertile sperm cells, all that is needed to release those sperm cells is an act of sexual intercourse.

For women, however, the release of their eggs doesn’t occur just anytime they have sex. It usually occurs when they are ovulating. Ovulation occurs when the eggs are released from the ovary and it is a stage in a woman’s menstrual cycle. Like the male sperm cells, the eggs must also be fertile.

When the ovum and a sperm cell meet, fertilization occurs. This usually happens in the fallopian tubes of the female reproductive organ. After this, the fertilized egg makes for the uterus and implants to the wall of the uterus, a process referred to as implantation. The entire process involving both fertilization and implantation is what is medically termed as pregnancy conception. A woman becomes pregnant at this point. Pregnancy conception date is therefore the day in which this happens. There are two main ways of estimating the pregnancy conception dates as we shall discuss below.
Guides: 10 Mistakes that Most People Make

Pregnancy conception date is the first way. This tool exploits the first day of a lady’s last menstrual period. Because it is assumed that a lady with regular menstruation will also have regular ovulations, the date of ovulation can be approximated and hence the pregnancy conception date. This tool works best for women with regular menstrual periods. It should be taken into consideration that this tool doesn’t give an exact date but an estimate.

Secondly, we have the ultrasound way of determining the conception date. This method can be used to determine the gestation age. Ideally, this is the pregnancy age. Working backward, using the last date of the last menstrual period, we can actually estimate the conception date. In normal cases, this tool will return more accurate results than the use of calculators but the accuracy of the ultrasound method diminishes greatly as the age of the pregnancy increases.
